For the summer of 2008, Chicago Kids Company will be offering Summer Camp
for TWO different age groups.
Jr. Summer Musical Theatre Camp (NEW!)
Ages 6 to 9
Get a head start on CKC’s summer theatre experience with this brand new
day camp for younger children. Jr. Summer Musical Theatre Camp is a mini-version
of our classic summer camp. The campers will begin the week by getting to know
each other through fun theatre games, and then it’s on to auditions!
For
the rest of the week, the campers will sing, dance and act as they learn their
parts, rehearse for the play, and even help create their own sets and costumes.
On the final day, the campers will put on their play at the CKC Studio for moms & dads,
grandmas & grandpas, and friends & neighbors. It’s the perfect
way for previous students to build on what they have learned in our classes,
or for beginners to jump right into the fun!
Summer Musical Theatre Camp (The Old Favorite!)
Ages 10 to 15
On the first day of camp, we will discuss the play
and the characters. We will talk about the
scenery, the costumes, and the props. We will play
theatre games, and get to know each other. At the
end of the day we will hold an informal "audition" to
determine who will play each role in the show.

The next few days are packed with rehearsals for the show: each child will learn acting, singing, and dancing. Some children will have the "leading" roles, and some will have only a few lines. In addition to rehearsing the show, everyone will be involved with designing and painting the scenery, building the props, and creating the costumes. Along the way, we take time to play games, go to the park, eat popsicles, and have a ton of fun!
On the first show day, we start the
day with our final dress rehearsal on the stage. CKC
hires professional lighting and sound technicians, hair
& make-up artists, and a full backstage crew to
create a fully professional final performance. After
the rehearsals are over, we take a "pizza dinner"
break...and get ready for the show. That evening
Parents, Grandparents, relatives, neighbors, and
friends are invited to watch the final performance!
On the final day of camp we’ll start with a farewell party. We'll watch the Video of the show, and discuss the overall experience. We'll play more games, sign each other's T-shirts, and exchange email addresses. That evening we’ll do the show one more time!
