No. We Cannot.
While wireless microphones were not the villain in Victor Hugo’s “Les Miserables,” they have become Prisoner 24601 here at Chicago Kids Company!
WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has taken over the wireless bandwidth that was once home to all of our wireless microphones. This has rendered all but a few of our microphones useless.
WHAT WE NEED TO DO
Purchase 25 new wireless microphones at the price of nearly $1,000 per microphone by January 31, 2020. Unfortunately, there is no way around this.
For more information about how wireless microphones work and how these kinds of changes impact the theater community, read American Theatre’s insightful article here.
how DOES THIS AFFECT OUR ABILITY TO PRODUCE ACCESSIBLE CHILDREN’S THEATER?
Immensely. While we are doing our best to problem-solve and keep our heads above water, the reality of this FCC takeover is devastating. As a non-profit, charitable arts organization, we were given no warning or timeline about this takeover, which means we could not plan or budget for this non-negotiable $25,000 expense.
